artist statement

FAWN explores the fawn stage of trauma response, where someone appeases those around them to avoid harm. It also examines how the male gaze can corrupts women’s relationships with one another.

Emily Everhard is a queer writer, director and actress who tells stories about female underdogs and outsiders. Emily pulls from her documentary fieldwork and under-appreciated historical moments to craft unique narratives set within subcultures and niche communities. She often uses humor to explore body autonomy, identity, and love.
